3 Day Tour Adelaide,
Barossa & Clare Valley
Day 1 An introduction to the
Barossa Valley We depart Adelaide at approximately
9.00am, travelling via the township of Gawler, located just
outside of Adelaide and into the southern portion of the
Barossa Valley, where we visit the heritage listed Whispering
Wall reservoir, an audio oddity, where a whispered word may be
heard over 100 metres away!
After a refreshing morning tea, we travel on to the famous
Chateau Yaldara winery where you can taste the wines,
photograph the magnificent Chateau and enjoy a leisurely
stroll through their stunning gardens.
Surrounded by vineyards & rolling hills, our next stop is
Grant Burge wines. Here you can taste award winning wines in
the stunning Grant Burge Cellar Door, nestled above the
picturesque Jacobs Creek. We then enjoy lunch at the
Barossa Weintal Resort. No trip to the Barossa is complete
without a visit to Peter Lehmann winery, situated on the banks
of the Para River, where you can taste award winning premium
wines, including some very special “Cellar Door Only” wines.
We travel through the Barossa Valley to Wolf Blass winery,
where we taste more premium Barossa Valley wines, and visit
their award winning Visitor Centre. Surrounded by vineyards,
we travel to Bethany Wines, in Bethany Village, settled in
1840, and see some of the original settlement buildings. This
afternoon we have a little free time to peruse the Main Street
of Tanunda & an opportunity to visit Wholer’s. Evening
Meal& Deluxe accommodation at the Barossa Weintal Resort. Day 2
Visit the Clare Valley After breakfast, served
in our restaurant, we head to the Clare Valley for a day of
exploring another wine region.
Bounded on the western side by the Spring Gully
Conservation Park, we travel to Skillogalee, a boutique
family owned and operated winery located in the heart of the
picturesque Clare Valley. From here we visit Eldredges
vineyards cellar door. Operations here began in December
1994 after many months of renovating an 80 year old stone
cottage. Travelling the Spring Gully Scenic Drive route,
located directly west of Sevenhill overlooking the Blyth
Plains, we travel back to the heart of the Clare Valley to the
Clare township, where we call into Leasingham Winery. From
here we travel towards Sevenhill, a picturesque town on the
outskirts of the Clare Valley, to Sevenhill Cellars, nestled
among the vineyards close to St. Aloysius Church. This is
the oldest existing winery in the Clare Valley, built in 1851
by the Jesuits who migrated to Australia from Austria, seeking
a life free from religious and political persecution.
Initially the main purpose of the cellars was to provide
sacramental wine for religious use and this has been ongoing.
Sevenhill Cellars now produce white, red and fortified wines
as well as sacramental wine.
On our leisurely drive back to the Barossa Valley, we
travel via picturesque Mintaro. Mintaro has seen
little development during the twentieth century, and is now
renowned for its intact early-Victorian character. By 1860,
Mintaro was also South Australia’s leading producer of high
quality slate. The stone was used locally, as well as in
many significant buildings in Adelaide and elsewhere, and
was especially prized for billiard tables. The quarry is
still operating, with some aspects of production unchanged
from the 1860’s and is believed to be the oldest continuously
operated quarry in Australia. We have some free time at
Auburn, birthplace of CJ Dennis, before returning to the
Barossa Weintal Resort.
Evening meal &deluxe accommodation at the Barossa Weintal
Resort. Day 3
Barossa Valley & district historic surrounds After a
delicious full cooked breakfast, we depart the Barossa Weintal
Resort, destined for Menglers Hill lookout, for a spectacular
morning view of the Valley. A great opportunity for a
photo capturing the contrasting colours of the vines &
paddocks. We then visit Yalumba wines; one of the few large
original family owned wineries, here you can taste the great
wines of the Barossa Valley and admire the historic buildings.
We now have the opportunity to visit the South Australian
Company Store, a showcase of everything South Australian, from
local produce and souvenirs to a café offering stunning views
across the vineyards. Lunch is served at the Barossa
Weintal Resort. We then travel to Kapunda, a famous mining
town, before heading to the delightful township of Freeling,
and the famous “Gungellan Hotel”, featured in the well know
McLeod’s Daughter’s television show, before returning to
Adelaide approximately 5pm.
